Import a Maya model into DevXR with FBX

Export a delivery copy from Maya as FBX, let DevXR prepare a validated GLB and inspect the web result before sharing it with a client.

Maya project files are not uploaded. DevXR accepts the exported FBX as a private source, converts it in the isolated worker and publishes only a validated GLB.

The workflow in 4 steps

  1. 01

    Prepare a delivery selection

Check units, transforms, meshes, materials, skeletons and the animation range that must leave Maya.

  2. 02

    Export the FBX

Create a separate FBX delivery copy. Keep the Maya project and production dependencies outside the upload.

  3. 03

    Import into DevXR

Upload the FBX to a project from a verified account. The source remains private during processing.

  4. 04

    Validate the browser result

Review scale, axis orientation, materials, skinning and every required clip before publication.

FBX delivery file

Export a clean FBX instead of the Maya project

Files such as .ma and .mb remain your working sources and are not accepted by Studio. Export only the objects, rigs and clips required for the delivery. External or proprietary scene dependencies may not transfer to the web result.

Before you import

  • The uploaded file is .fbx, not .ma or .mb.
  • Only the meshes, rigs and animation ranges required for delivery are exported.
  • The FBX stays below 100 MB and does not rely on missing external resources.
  • Scale, orientation, skinning, materials and clips have been checked in Studio.

Frequently asked questions

Can DevXR import a Maya `.ma` or `.mb` file?

No. Export a dedicated FBX from Maya, then upload that delivery file to your DevXR project.

What happens to the FBX after upload?

It is treated as an untrusted private source, converted by the isolated worker and passed through GLB validation. The viewer never serves the original FBX.

Do Maya rigs and animations work?

The pipeline attempts to preserve supported skeletons, skinning and clips. Constraints or proprietary features may need to be baked or simplified before export, and the result must be reviewed.

Can I embed the processed model?

After successful processing and explicit publication, DevXR can provide a share link and iframe for the validated model.
